Rohan Verma Speaks to NNA on the demand for Map Data for the automotive industry

8 May, India, New Delhi (NNA shooting)

– The Business Overview
It is divided into a plurality of business. Map production, provide a map API (application programming interface), navigation services, research based on the geographic information system, data collection, data analysis, it is 7 business of mobility services. Of these map data, the map API, 3 field of navigation occupies a large portion of sales. It is almost the entire company and trading of manufacturers that sell finished vehicles in India.

– We have developed a kind of service for the automotive industry
OEMs are currently interested in Konekuteddoka (leading cars), not only the navigation function to inform the location and directions, there is a high demand for the analysis of data obtained from the road. One of them there is safety information. Vehicle run with a sensor to obtain information such as “being depressed the accelerator at this point of the road”, “individual cornering tight”. To analyze it, we are developing a service, such as to notify the driver “Please be careful” before reaches the point where the car is applicable.

– Also part of the finished car manufacturers in India are selling electric vehicles (EV). Changes to the map data
In the same way as the gas station, he began to display the location of the charging facility on the map. It signed a tie-up in the same month and Hyundai Motor, which was released the “Kona Electric” in July, indicates the position of the Kona EV dedicated charging facility.

The EV there is a difficulty not to gasoline vehicles. In a small number of the current stage of the charging facility, or vehicle that can run much later, whether Tadoritsukeru to charging facilities in the rest of the power is obtained as compelling information. However, power consumption by the terrain, such as hills and bumpy roads, in other words since the vehicle can travel distance changes subtly, direct the driver to the charging facility is not as easy as you might think. We are now, while superimposed a variety of test, developed a system to be displayed in radar range EV that is capable of running in realtime, it provides a portion of the finished car manufacturers.

– The share of the Indian domestic market map
US Google’s lead in the consumer. In the enterprise, we are recognized as a top. An enormous amount of data in the map production required, new entrants is difficult, competitors are not many. The Company was founded in 1995, collects map data across India over a period of 25 years, it is updating.

– How they collect and update the data
It has assigned a permanent 700 people in the updating of the map data. In the residential areas to make sure the changes in road and building walking staff. Driving a vehicle with a sensor on the big road, we have adopted a method of sending the periphery of the information in our center.
The Company also provides a map app for consumers. This “Did you new shop” to the user, “the area is it safe”, such as the question, it is also to reflect the feedback obtained from there to the updating of the map data.

– The business development in other than India
In the outside India has developed to target the company under the brand name of “Mappuruzu (Mappls)”. Demand for the hotel map called the indoor map is large. Around the world of airports and major hotels, such as commercial facilities in the target, Apple’s one of our customers.
India is or was ambiguous address, Dattari insufficient road infrastructure, difficult often to understand the data. That our experience and know-how that has made the map in the environment, become strengths in order to expand business in other countries.

– The future of the goal
Performance is a non-disclosure but issued a 3% of the profits every year. In addition to continuing the existing businesses, such as map production and navigation, we would like to further strengthen the automotive industry services. In this industry, electric and automation operation, Konekuteddoka, believes and MaaS, new and concept was born one after another, the map data is a treasure trove of information on its implementation is essential. MapmyIndia has created a database of over 2 crore such properties across some 7,000 towns and 6 lakh villages in rural India.                                                                                “Unless somebody can physically map all this, it will be a big entry barrier,” informed Mr. Verma.

MapmyIndia is geared up for a strong marketing thrust and is confident. The products and services being “Made in India” and “Made for India”, with confidence that that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” programme generates the expected and required growth:  “We aren’t getting a level-playing field here and if the government is serious about building big companies in India, it must ensure that.”
