If you are thinking that the image
above is photoshop edit, you are wrong. This is
the actual device launched by MapMyIndia.com
specific for India in collobaration with Delphi.
MapMyIndia has taken its competition offline now.
Nobody ever imagined that India and India
roads/streets too can be navigated using GPS
device.
The Device uses Delphi NAV200
hardware with Samsung 400 MHz processor, SirfStar
III GPS chipset. It has built-in rechargeable
battery and also includes music, movies, games,
photos, world clock and calculator. It has 3.5"
colour touch screen.
The device will give you Real Time turn by turn
navigation, graphical map guidance supported by
voice instructions. You can find directions by a
locality, street name, point of interest or a
remote village. Point of interests includes petrol
pumps, ATMs, restaurants, landmarks etc. It also
includes auto re-routing and detour options. If
you missed the direction, it will re-route you to
the destination with alternative routes.
All that is pretty neat but here are few
questions
- how accurate it is?
- How fast it can re-route?
- What are the route calculation priorities?
- Does it give you Fastest route vs. shortest
route?
The device is priced @ Rs. 21,000 if
shipped inside Delhi state and 22,000 otherwise.
Thought the price is pretty high at this point, we
might see lot of competition down the road and
will eventually be available under around Rs.
10,000. (Lets cross our fingers.). So now having
GPS is not celebrity status anymore! Anyone can
have GPS in their cars in India.
Check out MapMyIndia.com for more
details.
