Online maps
website MapMyIndia.com, owned by CE Info System Pvt. Ltd, has
rolled out a navigation device for cars. MapMyIndia Navigator
is a new product that guides travellers along the shortest and
easiest possible route to their destination using GPS (global
positioning system) with on-screen maps and voice
instructions.
MapMyIndia has also launched a mobile
phone service called Wayfinder Navigator, which can be
downloaded on all GPRS enabled phones for a monthly
subscription of Rs 400. The service will be available on all
GSM phones that have GPRS connectivity. It is also available
on Blackberrys and Windows Mobile operated phones.
The
company plans to develop a network of resellers across the
country and will also be selling directly on its website and
shopping sites Indiatimes and Futurebazaar. Once the Navigator
gets large numbers, says Rohan Verma, head, marketing, CE Info
Systems, the service will deliver targeted ads. MapMyIndia has
a strategic tie-up with GetIt, which will provide the support
for displaying the ads. GetIt will provide its Yellow Pages
search service on the Navigator.
The in-car navigation
device, the Navigator, can be run by a customer by indicating
his current location and destination address. It has an
automated voice guide providing directions. The company plans
to tie up with most automobile companies to offer the
Navigator as part of a car’s standard features.
The
Navigator will also provide utility locations such as ATMs,
petrol pumps, restaurants, landmarks, shopping complexes and
hospitals. The device provides the user personalisation by
saving the last trip he searched for, home, office and other
locations for quick reference. MapMyIndia Navigator has
add-ons like storage space for music, movies and games, and a
calculator.
Verma says, “The product is meant for the
security and convenience of travellers. It’s not just a
gadget, but also has a lifestyle aspect to it.”
The
Navigator is available in French, Spanish, German and English.
The company plans to make it available in Indian vernacular
languages. MapMyIndia Navigator users will soon be provided
real-time traffic information in their city.
