Real
estate portal MagicBricks.com and online maps
provider MapmyIndia.com have joined hands to enable
MagicBricks users to see the map of locality around the house
they have selected for purchase along with banks,
schools, hospitals and other important landmarks, and
find out the shortest driving direction from their place
to the selected one.
With the help of MapmyIndia,
MagicBricks.com will also enable its users to create a
unique e-location address for their real estate
property. The unique e-location address will then guide
others through the exact route map and text to reach the
destination.

Guys,
agreed with everything you have to say. The
comments seemed to have deviated a bit. The point
is is this product ready for commercial
integration with portals such as MagicBricks. If I
was part of the Times Group, I would not have
integrated MapMyIndia's engine to my site. Even if
I did so, I would not make much noise about it.

Deepak, I agree with you that
MapmyIndia is slow to load images. When Rakesh
Verma, managing director of MapmyIndia, was asked
about it at the press conference he said that the
system has been designed for the broadband speed
as India is moving to that direction. At the
press conference, they tried to demonstrate how
beautifully the MapmyIndia search function works.
And you know what, the search engine couldn’t
display any result for India Habitat Centre, where
the press conference was held. Rakesh Verma’s
explanation was that it’s already a famous
landmark. But yours truly wondered if MapmyIndia
wasn’t aware of a famous landmark how much it
could know of not so known places! Certainly,
MapmyIndia team has to go far in making the site’s
search facility really useful. As of now, the
search feature seems to be there just for the sake
of it and is unable to provide users a great
search experience. But heck, the service is only
at beta stage and I am sure Verma’s team must be
working to improve it. Notwithstanding the
limitation, I appreciate the pioneering work that
the team of Rakesh Verma have done to create
MapmyIndia.com. And as far as I know, they don’t
have competition in the country. They seem to be
the king in their domain, at least for now!

Ain't
there any better mapping service yet in India.
This thing is slower than a snail and the search
technology is as antiquated as can get. Posted by Deepak

Well,
MagicBricks uses the MapMyIndia engine for their
mapping services. I find it to be utterly useless
at this point in time. Agreed, it is the best
mapping & route service in India but it is at
best a Beta product. The locality search feature
has a long way to go before it proves itself
useful. Posted by Naveen
